Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a toyota corolla 96 1.6 gli. Manual transmission.

Problem happens when i switch to the 3rd gear, the transmission stick pops
back to neutral. It'll stay on the 3rd gear if i get my speed up to atleaat
40kph  while on 2nd gear. But it doesnt normally do that before. I tried just
stepping on the clutch, switch on the 3rd before slowly releasing the clutch
but then it still pops back to neutral making funky noise like a grinding metal
or something.
