I'm wondering if I've damaged my battery or other components

Hi there, I've had an issue when charging my car battery with a portable charger. I'm concerned that I might have done some damage, and was hoping you could advise me. Basically, the insulation for the lower handle of the positive charger clamp came off when I was trying to remove that clamp from the battery. The clamp remained attached, and the now uninsulated lower handle came in contact with the central cross-bar holding the battery in place causing showers of sparks. Unable to quickly get it off, I unplugged the charger, which reduced but did not eliminate the sparking. It still seemed like it sparked when it was pushed down into contact with the battery, but it wasn't sparking near as much as earlier.. After a good fifteen or twenty seconds I managed to use the other clamp to press down on the still insulated portion of the positive clamp enough to finally pry it off (it was stuck on pretty good). A portion of the exposed metal clamp handle came off and is now attached to that bar holding the battery in place. I think the label on the battery might have burned a bit, but I'm not certain, it was just a short noise that seemed to be fire, but I didn't have eyes on it directly at that moment and if it did ignite it did not last more than an instant.
Anyhow, I'm a little paranoid about turning the car on at the moment just in case there might be some permanent damage resulting from this, particularly to the battery (I'm vaguely aware they can explode) or maybe other components. Nothing visibly looks wrong to me, but again, I'm not a car person. Any advice would be appreciated.
