Any toyota front wheel drive that year model with same engine will fit.

but ive read that celicas transmission for that year were specific to the model of car and year will I be able to use a corolla transmission if it was the same engine

yes it will work I have done it you just have to make some mod specially for the cold start connector, that is what I had to do when installing an engine from 2002 corolla..

Ps disregard my previous answer. the trans mount are deferent, it will fit but the front and rear mount has to be mode..it will bolt right in with engine but transmission mount wont sit in the mounting holes on center support.
