Car vibrates

Asked by 1sttimetytalover Jul 17, 2009 at 11:26 AM about the 1991 Toyota Corolla

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car begins to vibrate as soon as I turn the key in the ignition, and continues to do so until I turn it off. It sometimes gets worse as the car idles at red lights. So far, I've replaced the rear motor mount and the harmonic balancer, but the problem persists. My mechanic says he can't think of any other reason the car would continue to shudder other than "old age loosening things up". I think it's worth further exploration. Any ideas?

i was going to say motormounts myself. but since thats not it i can only think of this...my friend had an 89 toyota which he took pretty good care of for a long time. it got to about 250,000 miles on it and started to burn through belts really fast. so he took it into a shop to get it checked out and come to find out the engine pulleys were way out of line and there was no way to fix them without tearing the entire engine apart. something major was wrong. his car vibrated really bad at the end also. hope you dont have the same thing going on with yours.
