Question type: Maintenance & Repair
after 30 mph my speedometer needle jumps all over the place. i have a 22re with a manual trans. i do not know if i have a regular speedo cable or electronic sensor, and i do not know how to change out either of them. i am also wondering if an instrument cluster from an sr5, also a 22re stick shift will work in my truck since my truck does not have a tachometer.

It should have a cable. It sounds like it is in the instrument cluster or the gear inside the transmission the cable screws on to.
Another possibility depending on the mileage is that the cable is sticking in the casing and just needs to be lubed ?
Can this problem put up a check engine light
This is a little late, but your vehicle has a speedometer cable. It is bad, needs to be replaced. Thankfully, it is not difficult. One end unscrews from the transmission (transfer case if it is 4X4). The other end is clipped to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is removed by five phillips head screws. Once the screws are removed, the instrument cluster can be pulled slightly forward. There are three cable sets that can then be detached by pushing a button the top of the connector and then separating them. Go to the engine compartment and push the speedo cable forward a few inches through the firewall. This allows you to have enough room to pull the instrument cluster forward so you can push a side button on the retaining clip for the cable. Once the cable is released from the instrument cable, it can be threaded back through the firewall and removed. To install - - basically do the same thing backwards. I have done a number of these and oddly enough have always enjoyed doing them.
