what would make oil temp all of the sudden jump to 250 +

Hi terradice, The oil must not be circulating at an adequate rate through the engine. This can happen from a faulty oil pump, a clogged oil filter, or a lower than required level of oil in the pan. This can even happen (but is remote) if the oil level is over the required level. Good luck!
