check engine light came on my car, how can i check it ?
do i need to use scanner like we use for obdii may be by replacing the cartridge, or what?

There is a scaner for your car, Acron make it. Your local auto parts store should have it or one like it. but the 1989 Toyota has a OBD1 computer/port.

where is the port ,under the hood or right hand side kick panel.thanks

The port is by the feet area of the drivers side, bolted to the underside of the dash panel. Best of luck

self diagnosis by jumping the terminals ,under the hood right hand side avobe the battery,it will give you a failure code by the blinks of the light/removing the efi fuse for 30 seconds it will make the light go off but if the main problem still it will come again(black fuse box avobe the battery too)
