Google "supra performance," you should find a lot of message boards with guys who have done similar things that can give you excellent advice.
Weren't you just asking us if a 20 year old RS Camaro (that takes 14 seconds to get to 60) would be too much of a temptation to get a ticket?
That depends if you got a turbo or not. If you dont then get one and if you have one get a bigger one. also alittle of the old N2O will help. maybe intake, exaust, mess with the fule to air ratio and stuff like that.
the 'coolest' ? thats pretty vague, whats cool to me isnt cool to you. whats your next question, what is the fastest car in the world? I think a flywheel, clutch combo and a set of premium rubbers would work primo on taking a supra to the next level. throw in a G TECH just to have some more cheap fun.
you dont take a naturally aspirated motor and put turbos on it. for the JZ motor the cams are different, the pistons are cast not forged like in the Twin turbo model so you'll definitly run into trouble and the computer is set for different specifics too.(shift timing, air fuel ratios, coolant temps, etc) you just dont put a turbo on and drive away, its part of a system not a stand alone performance mod. the naturally aspirated motors are not designed like the turbo models. putting nitrous oxide to a JZ??? do you understand how complicated and expensive these motors are? price me out a cylinder head and pistons and get back to me. messing with the fuel air ratio on a nitrous motor is suicide unless you know what your doing and how to prevent shattering pistons like glass and from what you just suggested I'l say you dont.
well if you knew a little about these cars, you'd know they didn't come turbo until they changed body style in 1986.5. but as far as more performance, drop the 7mgte into it. its the turbo motor from mk3 supras. it bolts right in to the engine mounts and tranny. go to rabidchimp.com they have minor stuff for it. or if you want to know how to do the swap go to http://andy.supras.org.nz/. that has pretty much all the info you'll need on the swap.
This is really a loaded question. The Coolest Supra with an 84 is pretty hard to do as most people flock to the 93-98 models. You would probably need to decide what you want to do with it. Cheap, reliable, fast pick 2 of the three. You have a later generation 5M-GE engine which means that you have the high compression version. That should tell you that putting a turbo on it should be pretty much out of the question unless you don't run enough boost to do much of anything. To be fast, you need to put a new motor in it as you'd be hard pressed to get 200hp out of the 5M. Your easier options are 7M-GTE, 1JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GTE. Easier being a relative term. Mind you none of these options are cheap. a JZ swap could set you back between 5K-10K depending on the build. The 7M is the cheapest and it could still be 2k-3k if you're lucky. Some people have done the V8 swap, weather it be the Lexus 1UZ or a Small Block Chevy. Next is your transmission. If you have a manual I would recommend going with a R154 out of a 3rd Gen Supra because it's much more durable than the original W58. Although the W58 is really smooth shifting, it won't be able to handle the power for very long. Then comes the rear Differential. Because the stock car (if manual) came with a 4.30 ring and pinion you'll be spinning the tires ALOT. Find a 3.73 if you can, and redo the LSD with a Tru Trac from Rabid Chimp.com. If you have an Automatic, then it'll be able to hold some power , but you don't want to pull the tranny to rebuild it again so I'd suggest rebuilding it while everything else is out. Figure about 1k for that. I'd still do the diff even though the Automatic comes with a 4.10 for the same reason. Then comes the other performance like stopping and handling. The brakes can be upgraded to the calipers from an Nissan 300 Z (Z32) Turbo and the rotors from a Mavda MPV 4wd. If you want to, you can change the lugs from 4 to 5, but that's a whole different story. If you stay with the 4 lug, then your wheel options are pretty open. The down side is that most of the wheels are a high offset made for front drive Hondas. The offset range that you need to fit best is 0 to +15 or so. Other than that it's up to you to personalize to your taste such as paint, interior etc...
I actually dont think you know what you are talking about. a second hand 2jz-GTE costs around 1500 dollars. and yes .... you can put nitros to one of those.
Just so you know, 2JZ-GE and 2JZ-GTE engines both share the same piston construction and the cams are the same. There is a difference in the head gaskets however, and switching them out between engines can be used to achieve the different compression ratios. Its not recommended to go NA-T but its far from impossible. Engine conversions are far more common if you choose to keep your SZ or SZR and drop in a 2JZ-GTE from an RZ. You need to consider upgrading from the W58 5-Speed transmission that came stock in most NA MKIV Supras to a V160 or V161 Getrag 6-Speed that was an option for NA MKIVs and stock for RZs. There were also many other options available in the MKIV throughout production. Torsen LSD, Bigger Brakes...etc. There is a lot of information around on the supraforums, I suggest if you are interested in checking out highly built or tastefully built Supras, you swing by there.
dibs out this question... its gonna give me a headache with all the engine codes... drop in a nelson racing engine put wings on it...
Well...... Considering Supra's are nothing but "Dyno Queens" anyway the answer to your question is absolutly nothing can be done :) *wink*
yeh I think i know alittle about these cars seeing as i have a 86.5 but what i mean is just swich to a 7-mgte its a lot cheaper than a 2jz and will still kill most of the other car on the streets. I've been told by many Supra owners that going to a 2JZ can cost up to 10 grand. Thats with turbo up grades. Oh by the way just so the dumb@ss that think N20 will blow the motor up. Nitrous can be put on any motor. You can even put it on a garden tractor. You just have to set it lower.
