84 K10 Blazer 4x4. Is it really a K10 or a K5?

Asked by BigCountryK10 Aug 21, 2010 at 11:49 PM about the 1984 Chevrolet Blazer

Question type: General

Just bought an 84 K10 Blazer. Has a 305 small block. Headers, Straight pipes, Edlebrock carb. Just curious to know how tell the difference between the K10 and K5. When I run the VIN it comes back as a K10 but everyone says its a K5..... What gives? Any advice on upkeep or upgrades?

The difference is in the size. If you notice a K-10's have a shorter wheel base than a K-5. If the VIN is coming back as a K-10 then it's a K-10. And whoever is saying it's a K-5 doesn't know their Chevy's to well.

A K10 is Chevrolet's 4WD half-ton pickup truck. A K5 is a Blazer, which is an SUV before they were called that. If it has a separate cab and bed, it's not a Blazer. If your Blazer's VIN comes back as a K10, I would suspect a VIN tag swap.
