1977 Impala Modifications

I was fortunate enough to find a 1977 Impala.  Now that I
have this car I was wondering what modifications I can
make to the engine to improve the performannce and still
meet California smog standards. I dont really want to swap
the engine, I bought the car from Los Angeles and drove it
to Oakland. It made it to the Bay Area without any issues.

What engine? Smog legal headers would help it breath better. Aftermarket smog legal heads and a cam would be on my list and a high energy ignition system. Be careful and research each component before installing them. You really should have bought a 75 or earlier car.

There are tons of 50 state legal parts available. Carbs, intakes, cams..... You name it it's out there. When searching for parts look for a CARB (California air research board) compliance. for instance Edelbrock is just one company that is CARB compliant with almost everything they make. MSD ignition systems for the street are all CARB compliant. Go To JEGS.com and look around.
