how do you identify the tipe of tranny

I currently Owen a 1980 impala with a bad transmission. I previously had a 1982 impala of which I pulled the engine & transmission. The trans. out of the 82 had been rebuilt 8 months prior to removal. how can I tell if the 82 will bolt up to the 80?????

look at the trans.pan on the bottom of trans. same shape? if so install rebuilt trans. those year impala's should both use the th350 trans.
