if it has a 4 brl carb then its a 305 not a 350 ,there were no 350s in the 79 malibu. the 267 had a 2 brl .carb on it.

I went to vin decoder and it said it was either a 267 or 350. J code dosent show a 305
those were the only v8s in production.in the U.S. use your vin decoder and see where the car was built if it was built in mexico then yes you have a 260hp 350, the only other engine was the L6.

The vin is 1w27J9K533066 could u see if u can find anything on it. I would greatly appreciate it.
the assembly plant (K) is leeds missouri , so it didn't come from mexico , J means that its a V8 if it has a 4 brl carb its a 305 . the 267 only came with a 2 brl. there were no 350s built i the US. unless its not original. look on the front of the engine on the passenger side just below the head is a pad with numbers, take some brake clean and spray it clean you should see some numbers and then a 3 letter code, let me know what the code is & i'll tell you exactly what you have. but if the car is stock its a 305 for sure. still not a bad engine to modify.
yes the assembly plant and date, also the block casting numbers on the rear of the engine where the tranny mounts up you'll find the date also. do you have any pictures, these are great cars for hopping up. i have a friend that put a big block in one . the car is light so it don't take too much horsepower to get them goin. but there are some nice upgrades for them.

267 only came with a 2 barrel carb, his has a 4 barrel Engine configurations were varied and competitive within this mid-range market. For drivers who weren't excited by that assessment, however, Chevrolet introduced the 4.4-litre V8 that year. It combined a short-stroke valve-in-head design with a precision-balanced crankshaft and Dualjet carburetor. Finally, the 5.0-litre V8 offers four-barrel carburetion displacement, which translates to greater torque during low-speed and city driving.
