Question type: Car Customization

hey guys i really love 1973-74 monts and i'm planning to get one for my first car ... planning to get a (350 4bbl ) 'but i was wondering if the 350 has a good performance since it's a HEAVY car???  planning to do minor tweaking(headers, new carb ,msd , maybe even a 383 stroker ) i don't want a drag strip car but a nice street cruiser ... will it give me 0-60 in about 7 secs with minor tuning?

in my opinion the chev350 is the best motor they have ever put together. thats about the only thing they did right. my buddy has a 73 nova with a 350. the car gets up and move for just about stock.

LOL compared to my Malibu ur Monte weighs 2 pounds haha. the 350 in my Malibu is more than it needed rips the tires even if i dont want it to. and i have these fat wide ass tires. But be carful u might have to trade out ur stock differential. The 350 could rip it apart. Honestly im surprised mine hasnt shit the bed.

good car but yes it is very heavy, prob close to 3800 lbs alot biger than a malibu, if its the stock 350 then no it wont be fast at all. but the chevy 350 is one of the most reliable and afordable engines to start with. just a cam and some bolt ons and some 3.73s could make a really good improvment but stock they had somthing rediculis like 150 hp so it will be a turd. id check on the rear end cuz i know most of the 1st gens had 12 bolts in them if it does then your rear end will handle alot, even so the stock 10 bold should be an 8.5in and that should hold up just fine. the 383 with slicks and you might have problems.

It's a great small block with plenty of parts and power adaptability. 73-74 years were detuned quite a bit, but it will have plenty of power to cruise around. Most of these cars are geared with 2.78 or 3.02 rear ends for good highway driving as opposed to 3.73's or 4.11 rear ends for faster pickup. You'll get to 60 in 7 seconds, though.

If you want a fast Monte Carlo get a big block.
