1984 F150 won't stay running

Asked by Sharon Dec 02, 2016 at 09:19 PM about the 1984 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It acts like it's not getting enough gas. It's starts right up, idles fine, you drive it about 10 minutes and it starts stalling. Have to spray carburetor with gas to get it going again, but it keeps stalling.

Sounds like a possible fuel pump. Have you checked it?

Has the fuel filter been changed in the last 34 years?

If your truck has dual tanks - the tank switching valve (bolted to the frame behind the driver's door) is the possible issue. Bypass the valve completely and see if the truck stops stalling out.
