is it a fuel injection model? if so not much that will actually raise the top speed, but all kinds of things to get you there faster, if its a carb all kinds of things can be done

"if its a carb all kinds of things can be done " - like what. Can you explain. and why is this not possibe in a fuel injection model

becuase the top speed on a efi vehicle is limited by the computer ussually around 165 kms - 180 kms, & then you need to mess with the computer, but on a carbed modle there is no computer. on your truck you can do a cold air intake, headers, maybe some gearing, but every thing else is computer controled

on a carburated motor the reason theres alot more that can be done is because of the fact theres no computer, its all mechanical, you can add bigger cam shaft, roller rockers, bigger pistons, bigger valves, bigger intake manifold, bigger carb, headers, all these and more can be done to increase power, now you CAN do alot of this to a fuel injected motor, but you ll still have to mess with the computer in the end for it to run right

Oh, well according to Ford and LMC Truck Magazine, they didn't make fuel injections till 88. But there are possibilities.

i also had a 1987 ford bronco with a 5.0 fuel injection.maybe early fuel injections where an option.a had two 86 ford f-150's.the first one i had was a 4.9 in line six, that one was a one barrel carberator.later on i had an 86 f-150 5.0 fuel injection.but one of my uncle's also had an 86 f-150 5.0 that was carburated.maybe there was a transition period.

according to wikipedia the f-150 in 1985 had EFI has an option for the 5.0 and EFI was standard issue for the 1986 f-150 and other motors changed over in the following years, the 5.8 changed over to EFI in 1988.

alright what you got to do is add a new after market cold air intanke, a new exhaust system, a bully dog system, run higher octane gas,If you want more acceleration off the line but don't do much highway driving, get some smaller wheels. As a bonus, your tires will be cheaper, and it will lower the car! Get some low-profile, high-performance tires for better handling and to lower it a bit more, in addition to added grip, Catback exhaust, bigger pipe and a better flowing muffler will run you around 300 bucks, Surge Performance chip easy install just plug it in lets you gain 4-9 MPG if you turn it halfway and you can gain upto 35 horsepower on max setting and they run you about 90 bucks, performance header,
