I have a 1985 ford f-150 first year EFI that's been sitting for about two years. I put a new battery in, and fuel, and it started and ran. Then, it stalled and I can't start it again. Any suggestions?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

put a new battery in, and fuel, and
the truck initially started up great and
sounded good. Then , I stalled on the
clutch a few times while moving it,
and after it stalled for about the third
time, it would not start again. It turns
over, but cannot get it started. I do
smell fuel when I crank, so I don't
believe that is the issue. Any
suggestions?

It's possible that the old fuel and/or any water may have fouled the system or at least the filter. EFI doesn't tolerate bad fuel as well as a carbureted system does. Check the fuel pressure but I'm willing to bet that if you spray come carb cleaner down the intake that it'll start. Keep in mind that old fuel doesn't' have the BTU's nor will it provide the HorsePower needed to drive the truck normally.

Very likely a clogged fuel filter and lines. And two years of sitting ethonol laced gasoline tends to attract a lot of moisture. If the spray down throat with starter fluid allows the engine to start, drain the tank and flush out the fuel lines.

Same problem here. Been sitting two years. Tanks have old gas in them. Starts with a shot of ether, but then dies. Replaced hp fuel pump on rail and filter. Still only runs on ether a few seconds. How do I drain a tank without removing the bed and tank? Please I dont want to rwmoce bed.

Lake: You should be able to drop the tank without removing the bed.
