Engines interchange?

I would swap out the entire engine.

I am swapping the whole motor. That's what I'm going to do. But since the 1987 motor is fuel injected and the 1986 is throttle body I have to change the intakes out because the FI won't work in the 1986 truck due to the wiring harness, computer, ect... so I was wandering once I take all the fuel injection off the motor will the intake that the throttle body is on mount right to the head that the FI was mounted to or will I have to put the old head on the newer motor to make the throttle body intake mount up?

I take it the 86 has an aftermarket throttle body? I would go with the one you like better but I am pretty sure the heads are different so to keep the throttle body you would probably want to swap heads. I personally would go with the complete EFI system.

Both trucks are all original. It came with the throttle body or maybe it's just a carberator. I'm not sure on that but it is factory. I bought both the trucks new. I'd like to keep the EFI but I didn't think the 1986 model would have the correct wiring harness and computer to be able to hook it all up. ? Is that possible or would I have to change all that?

I would definitely go with the EFI over the carb unless you like old school. Clearly you have to swap the entire EFI system not just the engine. Keep the carb would be easier.

Keeping the EFI system is what I would rather do. But again, the 1986 truck came with a caberator. Therefore it doesn't have the wiring or the computer that controls the EFI system. That's why I was going to just use the engine itself but didn't know if I could use the long block or the short block. If there is a way to put the entire motor with the EFI system on it into the 1986 Ford truck I would love to do that. But without the wiring for the EFI or the computer how would I do that? I could rob the wiring harness and the computer out of the old truck but unless it all just plugs in I'd be in a mess because I'm not good at figuring wiring out at all. Thanks for yalls help!

Since you have the donor truck you have everything you need - wiring, computer etc. Good luck on your project either way you go. Let us know how it turns out.

Yeah, I guess that's true. Just don't have as much knowledge as I'd like to have so I'm stuck with trying to do whatever seems easiest. But me and my son are gonna look them over good and try to make an uneducated decision so to speak... lol. I'll definitely let you all know how it goes and what all we run into as we go.
