You can disconnect the A/C coil so the a/c will not engage . The 2 wire plug on top of the compressor powers up the clutch coil , to engage the compressor. If this is unplugged , then the belt can free wheel without the worry of the compressor seizing up and ruining the belt. If the bearing for the clutch coil is no good ( noisy and overheating) you will need to replace the bearing . This can be done without evacuating the a/c system !!
