Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i was in 4 whl drv hi rng while plowing snow. the unit popped and i lost the frnt drv. i tried shifting around and got it to wrk for seconds then it slipped out again. it does'nt seem to be the shift linkage (unless internal). 4whl low rng works fine. what may be the most likely cause?

To me it sounds like a issue in your transfer case, You lost the gears for "4wd high", This is a 26+ year old truck. I would only use the 2wd until you get it looked at and hopefully it wont break anything else. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Sorry I just got around to updating this issue. as it turned out, one of the front lock-out hubs was bad. I replaced it and the unit worked fine until I sold it a couple years later.
