I have an 89 ford f-250 and the coil plug in melted and the new one looks nothing like the old one

the old one has a wire going  to a
condenser and only has two wires going  
tothe plug iitself and the new one has three
wires

okay....no one knows quite what you mean by "coil plug"...the computer has several results...post a picture so we can match it for you...most likely that extra wire is NOT used...we can check that vs. your schematic if important to you~
