i have a 85 ranger with a 2.8 i changed valve cover gaskets on it and now it will not idle it also jerks when you put it in gear it is a automatic but you still have to shift gears if you put it in drive or overdrive it will tac out

sounds like you got some vac lines crossed,or not hooked up.
