Starter?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My '87 Ford Ranger will just make a click
and won't start on occasion. I have jumped it
and wiggled wires and also wiggled parking
handle to get it started but its not starting
this time. Do I need a new starter or could it
be the wires?

My Dad has the same truck...He called me for help the other day ....it was doing the same damn thing just clicking And he thought his battery was shot.. took me an hour to get to him but by the time I got there he had Cleaned the battery posts and cables and the truck was sitting there running ...kinda piss me off...lol but he fixed his problem....I would have bet that it was his charging system because he had the same issue 2 years ago turned out to be his battery this time it was his cables take the Cables off and clean them good... even the one on the starter and the ground..most problems are caused by the most simplest things. Also make sure ( visually ) that the copper wires aren't burnt or corroded inside of their fittings...Who the rubber back if need to.. If it's not the wires have the battery And charging system checked for free at AutoZone or trusted mechanic... if it's not the battery Or charging system head to the starter relay...no? then check the starter solenoid..But usually by the time you get there you've already found your problem in most cases...
Same problem here got the top done now crawling underneath tomorrow
What really sucks is I can't push in the clutch at the same time in order to engage anything and I can't figure out how to disengage the clutch ignition switch nonsense
