knocking noise

need more info, where do you here the knocking???Guessing the motor.worn out rod bearings, wrist pin.
Knocking noise under floorboard, when going over small bumps. Had two garages check out the front suspension, pipes, etc while on lift. Nobody can find the source, but doesn't seem to indicate anything MAJOR. It's more annoying than anything else. I was just taking a "stab" here on the forums to see if any other Ranger owners know this as a common problem. (probably related to something loose on body?) Oh- by the way, it's a stock 88 Ford Ranger 2WD, 2.3 L, 82,000 miles, automatic Thanks
ok,while on the lift everything is hanging down..I doubt tranny mount,I would check for worn shock rubber where they mount on bottom, but if hitting floor board,i would suspect the cat converter is what is hitting.dont lift it,crawal under enought to reach it give it a shakeing, see if it moves.
You know- you might have something there about the cat converter. The funny part is recently I had the muffler replaced, and asked the guy there to check for the source of the knocking noise while it was up on the lift, but he thought it might be the stabilizer bar?? He showed me a slight wear mark where it might be rubbing, and nudged the bar over slightly. I think I'll take it back there and have him check out the cat Thanks again
