How do you get the %$#!@ steering box out! Do you have to pull the engine? Pin in spine won't allow box to come out.

See above.  Do you pound out the pin while the box is in the car or what??

You need a shop manual. Reproduction factory shop manuals are available from most of the T-Bird repro parts suppliers. Grandpa had a '61 and I must say, it was one of the most illogical cars I have ever worked on. I wish you luck. You may have to lift the engine slightly or do something else completely irrational.

Have a shop manual. "Remove power steering lines and bolts. Remove steering box". No mention of the pin that prevents the box from releasing from the shaft.
