Will the top worm gears opperate to lift the deck lid a little,if so at rt ft there is a plunger button, press it down & let it snap up,it may get top to go into open cycle.
Have you tried to lower top at all? does it raise and just not go into the trunk? If so, can you get to the reset button under the rear metal flap? If so, try to press it and with some luck the top will go the rest of the way down.
thanks, the top hasn't been UP for about 20 years. But your answer was helpful. We have someone working on it now, to get it up (hopefully)
When you say the top hasn't been UP for 20 years, do you mean it has not been open or not been closed? In my book up means it is in the trunk storage area. If that is so, you should be able to get to the button
First, undo the hooks on the top frame windshield, then check for power to the switch, button. The button only operates up and down, the relays dictate the sequence and the limit switches are what makes the next relay kick in. unhook the top , push the button down for down, the trunk lid should open first, it goes all the way back , it hits a limit switch, a small button hehind the lower trunk cylenders, both sides. If the trunk is back and the next step doesnt happen, push back on the trunk so it hits the limit switch, that should kick in the trunk flapper . The the top lifts up and folds back.all relays and limit switchs. once u understand ht esequence and the limit switches, they are very easy to work on, its one hydrolic pump, 4 cylenders, and the rest are 8 relays and 5 or 6 limit swithes. Its all about sequense of operation. If it goes to a point and stops, its the limit switch, just adjust the lil arm or the relay not kicking in.
Thanks for your explanation I live in the UK and its hard to find any info on these particular cars as they are rare over here. I would also like to know where I can buy hydraulic hoses for same. Anthony
Larry's thunderbird has all the hoses for your car Larry's thunderbird.com
The best thing to do is contact John at the Thunderbird Ranch Auto. He has an electronic relay that eliminates all tose old relays and he also has a ton of on line info or he willo talk on the phone with you to correct issues. He also rebuilds limit switches at a good rate ans fast and efficiant. You can also buy any part needed for that top from The Birdsnest thunderbird parts. They have hoses etc. But John has the relay. I havent had one problem in five years with my top thanks to John.
