Accelerator pump not fully returning so little prime fuel when cold

Autolite 4100 on a 1963 ford thunderbird
when cold, as we all know, I need to push the throttle down several times I've
noticed that the accelerator pump moves ok forward but only about halfway
back and I get little fuel and no start
if I move it by hand a couple of times I can hear and feel the fuel going in
and the car starts.
do the springs in the pump need changing
the whole carburetor was new only a year ago
thanks

Weak spring? Does the choke work?
Thanks, F-O-R Yes the choke is fine if I push the accelerator in and out by hand I get plenty of fuel and the car runs fine its an Autolite 4100 but one youtube page says it doesn't have a spring ?? inside I assume the spring could be weak, what do you think?
F-O-R Again thanks I think i misread your reply I was referring to a possible spring INSIDE the diaphragm assembly ( if there is one) and I'm now guessing youre referring to the spring on the side of the carburetor, yes?
before I take the carburetor apart to see if I can align the accelerator spring I'm going to try a temporary test option by attaching a short spring/elastic to the accelerator arm itself then when adjusted see if it allows the accelerator pump to function when starting from cold, perhaps with three foot pedal presses we'll see
F-O-R Thanks, again that was the answer you suggested the accelerator spring on the side of the carburetor I attached a temporary elastic band to pull the accelerator arm back and it worked fine I've got to see how difficult it will be to dismantle the carb to reattach that spring or rig up a more permanent spring on the end of the accelerator arm anybody any suggestions, meanwhle thanks F-O-R
Your local hardware store or car parts store should have a selection of springs.
