I just bought a 1965 ford thunderbird, and it won't start
with the key. It cranks and tries to turn on with the key but
nothing, the only way it starts is when I bypass the starter
solenoid. What can it be?

Maybe it needs a tuneup.
Check the neutral safety switch on the steering column.. Switch could be disconnected or stuck or just bad.
Push up om the shift lever to engage the nuetral switch. Push up hard . If it starts, adjust or replace switch. if not help, could be the ignition, kinda rare for the ignition to go but you never know
If it cranks from the ignition or no. I would check the starter solenoid connections and solenoid itself.
