t-bird motor stopping

Asked by alyssa Apr 16, 2011 at 05:55 PM about the 1985 Ford Thunderbird

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

5.0 liter thunderbird

In warm weather car will quit when stopped at street lights but start right away.

Brought it to the ford dealer several times and they said nothing was wrong with it.

Can keep the bird running if I hold the gas down and brake tork at stop lights.

Not good when my daughter wants to drive.

Did the recall on the distributer and the dealer broke it. Charged me 300.50. No more fords for me.

O2 sensor seems not to be a problem.

There is a lot of 5.0 ford engines out there.

can anybody help me?

Greg

change the gray box that is eather mounted on dis shaft under cap or is mounted on top of ac compressor..

Thanks PAPA, I'll check it out. Funny my Ford dealer couldn't do that when it was covered many years ago. Alyssa is my daughter and she wants to keep the bird. Nice stereo and a classy car. Thanks again, Greg Alyssa

Just a thought 2 1/2 years later: I have a 5.0 in my 1985 Crown Victoria. Multiple stops! Changed the EGR valve and the EGR valve sensor that mounts on top of it. Cured the problem! Vehicle hasn't "Stopped" in 25 years, and 241,000 miles..
