Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. This is my first post. I just recieved a car fom my moms estate. It's a 1988 LX with a 302 engine and FI. It has 72,000 miles on it and is in mint shape. I was running it the other day and when I accelerated away from a traffic light the car just stopped and the check engine light came on. I have found the fuel shut off switch and it seems to be properly set. Is there a relay that controls the power to the fuel pump? I have the manaul for the car and the Chiltons manaul also but no mention of a relay. Is it just a bad fuel pump?

Is there noe one out there that has any input on this. I donlt want to go thru the hassle and expense of replacing a fuel pump if there is something else that may be the problem. I am sure that it is a fuel delivery problem but is there a relay or something that I can check first?

I have an 87 t-bird that had the same problem. after replacing the fuel pump (to no effect), I fount the ignition control module was loose, tighten it to tight and it wouldn't run. I loosened slightly and it has not malfunctioned again. Took me 5 years off and on to find the problem. Good luck!
