If your car is overheating, the temperature gauge will light red. I believe your X5 will say "Coolant Level Low" on the driver information screen. Whatever you do, DO NOT OVERHEAT YOUR CAR! Your engine has an aluminum head, and it will warp under the extreme heat, which will lead to a bad seal with the block, causing leaks and eventually killing your engine.
