1996, Z3. How soon for timing change replacement?

Any ideas what type of maint. you should have done at 112K miles, such as timing chain? etc?

Hi John! If the belt has not been changed before you are probably well past the time when it should be done. Check with your look BMW Service Manager for confirmation, and for a list of other maint. that should be done at this point but I would say you need to look into getting your timing belt done at this point. I have a 96 myself. We coulda gotten a 97 or 98 couldn't we? But no. James Bond drove a 96, so it had to be a 96 huh? Oh yeah, that's right buddy! But yeah, your timing belt shoulda been changed 50 thousand miles ago. 60k is the recommended mileage. But on some cars you can safely go 80 to 100k. (which is not recommended) Maint?...Well you are gonna need all new belts and hoses and of course a tune up and your alternator is probably getting close, as well as your water pump. Johnny

it has a chain not a belt and honestly wouldnt worry about it.unless u have the 4 cylinder then its a belt.i have worked on z3s from the time they came out til they came out with the z4 and never needed to replace a chain for any reason.other than a mornon that couldnt read the sign i put on it saying DO NOT START!! and when it was started it didnt have the cylinder head on it and broke the chain.112k its due for an inspection 2.which is a waste of money its a list of stuff you can do on your own.all z3 take the xj diff oil found in m3 and m5s.oil,filter,plugs,fuel filter,and air filter are done as well.send me a message if you have any other questions

The 4 cly Z3 1.9L (M44) has a Timing Chain (not belt).
