Use double platinum plugs so you can go longer between spark plug changes. The engine you have is a PITA to change plugs on. Also use a good anti-seize on the spark plug threads.

With federal mandates on fuel efficiency being what they are, if another 1 mpg could be had with a different plug, the manufacturer would have installed them in the first place. Just use what Ford specifies and in Motorcraft brand.

I believe your vehicle has aluminum heads. Be very careful when removing. The engine should be hot when you try to remove them. You can strip the threads in the head. Also remember steel plugs and aluminum heads causes corrosion, so be careful taking them out. No 900 pound gorilla tactics during removal or installation. I also believe the torque specification for installation is measured in inch pounds, not foot pounds. I believe around 14 inch pounds is recommended. Browse the net and you will find further information.

I would go with factory plugs. If you use something that lasts longer, then your taking a chance of plugs freezing and taking a chance of stripping the threads. Whatever you use make sure to use anti-seize on plug threads to help prevent this.

The Triton 3 valve heads are notorious for having broken spark plugs when changing them and there is a special tool for removing broken plugs. Even Ford disowns its own plugs and won't cover removing them under warranty! I believe they used a weird two piece plug but there are one piece plugs now available.

Some people are using the Champion 7989 plugs. They run good and no breaking.
