Does a fuel pump go bad from just sitting?

Try this, it sometimes works. With a rubber mallet strike the fuel tank around the location where the fuel pump is while someone turns the key to the on position. The fuel pump should run for a few seconds once the key is turned to on. Striking the take just "possibly maybe" get it to start. If you do not hear the pump come on pull out the meter and begin checking.

How many months?..could be the gas has gone bad..I use Sta-Bil when I winterize my toys...Stay-Bil is a gas stabilizer..might add some then fill the tank up...

There are a few problems with allowing gasoline to sit in the tank for months. Ethanol blended gasoline tends to have moisture issues. All marine application engines state not to use ethanol blended gas for this very reason. Another problem is gasoline tends to varnish up systems if allowed to sit. If you ever remove the bowl from the carb on one of your lawn toys you will see what I mean. It looks like polyurethane painted on the bottom.

It sat maybe four months after my husband died, then I used drove it one day to haul something and it drove great. Then it sat for at least another 6+ months and wouldnt start after sitting. It only had maybe a couple gallons in it so I added some new gas and gas treatment but still wont turn over. I will try all these suggestions before having the fuel pump replaced...that can't be an easy task.

Your battery has to be dead if it sat for six months.
