Battery or Alternator?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 Ford F-150 all of a sudden wont start. I can jump it off but wont run
long before it dies. I jumped it off and disconnected the battery, it died. In the
older days this was a valid test to determine if battery or alternator was bad. My
results indicate bad alternator. Is this still a valid fault identification test?
