2002 F150 supercab battery cables with fuse box

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my Ford 2002 supercab V6 is having an
electrical connection issue. The wires in the
battery cables are pretty badly eroded and are
most likely the issue.
My truck will turn on fine some days, then will not
turn on others. It acts like the battery is dead but
the battery is actually fully charged. We replaced
the positive and negative connections to the
battery but I still have this issue after about a week
or so.
My question is if the battery cables have the fuse
box connected to it, (the fuse is still good) do I
absolutely have to get the same cables? No store
around where I live seems to carry it. Can I get
away with useing different cables?

I would be wary of using different cables mostly because the fusible links may be different. You could build a set of cables as long as you're cognizant of those fusible links and what rating they carry. Other options are salvage yard or online sites. With the salvage yard you can compare the replacements with your existing set, chances are if you pull them from a similar vehicle to your own, they'll be the same. There is also the dealership, if you don't mind remortgaging your house.

Ok, that's what I was worried about... Does it HAVE to have the fuse bax on the wires? Can I not just get regular cables? Or is there a special purpose for said fuse? I can't seem to find an answer online anywhere.

Ok not quite sure what box you are referring to, the battery cable does not have a fuse box built in, it just attaches to one. The negative (black) cable runs to an engine ground and body ground. The smaller positive (red) runs to the starter relay, but may have one or two fusible links on that line. The thicker red cable runs to the starter. The smaller red line from the starter relay will run to the alternator, and battery junction box then to power distribution box, although this depends on models and year. Post a couple pics and we can tell you what the box in question is.
