Should, as long as the new ignition and the new key are a pair and the chip in the new key matches the new ignition

You can purchase a ignition lock at a place like auto zone. It is easy to install, but you will have to have the switch activated by a lock smith with a hand held device. At least that is what I had to do with a 99 explorer.

Ok I had a lock smith come out to reprogram it n they said that I need to replace the coil on the new ignition first is that true

Wait: You lost your key, right? Now, to program the ignition with the new lock cylinder and key you have to replace the ignition coil?????? Never heard of such a thing. Anyway, on my 99 the locksmith had the thing programmed and running in about forty five seconds. Unless it is something new and unique, I doubt it. Google ignition replacement for 2001 F-150 and see what you learn.
