Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My '01 Ford F-150, 5.4l, 4x4 will turn over, but not start and all my ignition
dash lights stay on when key is removed. I did have some minor work done
months ago inside my tilt steering column where mechanic fixed something
in harness that was loose where some instruments would not work unless
tilt was up. Please help I am at a loss and stuck out in the country on a
rural ranch for now and can't get in town.

Is check engine light on ? First thing to try is spray some starter fluid or carb cleaner into throttle and see if it starts. If does not start then you know firing problem but if it starts then shuts back off then you know you are not getting fuel.
Yes check engine light is on Thanks, but all my dash lights are staying on when "KEY IS REMOVED". My truck turns over

Oh ok in that case I think you are still having a problem with the harness in the steering column try moving the tilt steering in different positions and then try to start vehicle. If dash lights go off when moving tilt steering to different positions problem is in the harness in the column.
sprayed starter fluid in and it started briefly and shut off, but like I stated already, all the ignition lights stay on even when key is removed in off position.
I tried the moving of the tilt and seems like it's not changing anything
I sprayed starter fluid and she started and stays running...and will restart, but once again all my ignition dash lights are staying on with KEY REMOVED...WTH?

Need to take back to mechanic that worked on column harness I think it has something to do with it.
