Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an '85 F150 with with a reman 302 EFI with only 15k mi on it. It also
has a fairly recent rebuilt trans. The body is in bad shape. I just picked up
an '96 F150 with a I6 EFI engine. Both trans are automatic. Can I swap out
the I6 with the 302? What about the harnesses? The computers? On my
'85 there is a selection on the column for OD. On the '96 there is a button
on the shifter for OD (that doesn't work). Any advice?

Can you? yes. Is it practical? No. The trans won't interchange. And there will be alot of electrical issues to tackel. You will be doing alot of welding. Your better off finding a replacement engine for the 96 or something that already had a 302 from the get go.

I appreciate your reply. I have learned a lot from asking different people, mechanics and auto parts guys. I think my best bet for this truck is to keep the I6. I understand that it is a very reliable engine and can easily last 400k miles. Thanks.
