Timiming check

Asked by Jbrocky Jul 14, 2017 at 11:38 PM about the 1996 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 F150 , 4.9 L inline 6 , manual transmission. I want to check the
timing on it. My question is, where is the timing mark on the pulley ? There is
a notch, and has numbers with tbc . I cleaned the pulley off , hooked up my
timing light , and no mark shows up . Can someone help me on this?

Thanks for getting back , In the manual, it says it's the front plug, that's the one i used, maybe it's wrong.

the timing may be set by the computer , especially if the distributor bolt is all kinds of tight , if you adjust it you can throw the cam and crank sensors out of sync , is there a reason you want to check the timing ?
