Asked by tennisbum Sep 23, 2013 at 12:01 PM about the 2006 Buick Lucerne

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes dies when idling at stop signal.  But started up with no problem.
This time I was driving when it stopped.  No idiot lights came on the dashboard.
When I pulled over, I had to try 5 time before it started up again.

It is the crankshaft sensor. Be sure to clean the connectors good with automotive electrical cleaner and let dry.

Is like to know the final result since my mothers 2007 Lucerne has done this and we’ve had 2 shops replace the crank shaft sensor and a third shop replace the master air flow sensor and now has done again...this has all been done within the week and has now stranded her on the side of the road again and being towed to a 4th shop. Only had 114k miles. To me it seems electrical but is extremely unsafe and not for an elderly widow to drive at risk. Please let me know. Thanks

My 2007 just did the same thing for the 2nd time. There is no concrete answer for this issue. It is expected that I, a former Army Maintenance Officer, is supposed to accept unpredictable progressive maintenance until the problem is found? I don't think so. With this entry posted, it would appear we could get a better answer by now. Thanks, I'll get a diagnostics test done after the ignition recall is fixed to see if this might be the problem or cause.
