the ignition control module for both the 3.1l and 3.4l are identical in
appearance and all wires and plugs fit. So now my 3.1 is running on a 3.4l
ignition module. Is this O.K.?

If they are exactly the same pats, you will be fine as the ignition is controlled through the ECM (Engine Control Module)
