Oil in coolant resevoir

Asked by GuruXFRLP Nov 19, 2018 at 04:30 PM about the 2000 Buick Century

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

'Low coolant' lite came on 2 months ago. Its hard to tell level from the plastic reservoir tank because it dirty and stained. Added about a pint twice at different times over 2 month period, lite stayed on. Checked inside reservoir tank last nite with flashlite and it looks like oil floating atop the coolant, this was not the case 2 weeks ago. 'Low oil' light has come on and off over last week. Checked oil last nite and it barely reads on the stick, added oil , I didn't notice any discoloration on cap. Checked radiator cap and it has milky white stuff on it. Car has been challenged lately, when I start up I have to accelerate or it dies. Oil lite is no longer on. Any help would be appreciated, this is my work car and I have a large family.

would you suggest any other areas to look at to confirm blown head gaskets before venturing down there?

COunt yourself lucky it is not a craked block, your coolant got low so teh hot engine did not work overheated and warped head, you porbably need it milled not just change gasket. TDR 23 Nov 18
