i have a 1999 buick century that clicks hard at the turn of the key but will not start the car. i can jump the starter and it works like its should. fuses n relays ok

It's either a weak battery, dirty connections, or your starter is on it's way out. First, I would take a volt meter and test the battery with the engine off. If less than 11.8 volts, I would replace the battery. If over 5 years old, that is most likely your issue. If battery tests good, I would then clean all cables and grounds. Make sure the cable to the starter is not all corroded as well. Lastly, if battery and connections are all good and clean and it fails to start, have someone hold the key to the ON position and rap the starter with a hammer. If it suddenly turns over, it's the starter that's on it's way out.

i can jump the starter at the solenoid post on the starter and get it too crank... from in the car at the key it slams the solenoid into action but no crank...ive cleaned all the terminals pertaining to the starter also. ive never had probs like this before...so what eles is it or could be... im stumped. i thankyou for any info...

if all eles fails start at square one. had 12 volts but no amps to lite this up...IT WERKS NOW...LIKE A CHAMP. clean the terminals good. thanks for the input Reelin68.
