Asked by ogracia Feb 29, 2016 at 11:06 AM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replace serpentine belt and when ran engine belt will look misaligned and it looks as if it could come off the pulleys, the steering pump visually looks misaligned, have you heard of similar problems?

the washers are on the wrong side for the offset to be aligned, or while you were removing it bent the bracket. what eles did you disassemble while this was being done... Spring can sometimes be on backwards/wrong and cause a twist to make the belts "come off" due to them being at an angle instead of flatly aligned.

I would suspect the belt tensioner may be pulling apart. There are two half's to it, mounting side is of course stationary, the pulley side moves. If you look at the seam between the two half's, it should be a niece tight and even seem. If not replace the belt tensioner. Also check the idler pulleys to make sure there is no play in them. Check the power steering pulley with the crankshaft pulley. should run in line. Thats how you can tell if there is something wrong with the power steering pulley placement. (location)
