2004 dodge ram 1500 issuse

Asked by Alicialuvstrucks Aug 29, 2011 at 09:40 PM about the 2004 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck has a strong smell of gas, but no leaks anywhere. Vegas weather gets pretty hot in the summer. I don't want to blame the heat as some machanics whom I've talked to seem to use that excuse and advise of many parks to be replaced. Any ideas of what it may be to avoid harsh spending towards something it may not be in need of fixing?

sounds like the vent valve is stuck open on the gas tank, that would lead to your gasoline smell but lack of leaks. its prolly a $20.00 part but you either have to lift the bed of the truck, or drop the gas tank to get at it.
