Transmission won't shift out of drive

Asked by 2004ram2500 Feb 05, 2009 at 07:45 AM about the 2004 Dodge RAM 2500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2004 Ram 2500 4x4 Automatic Tranny with 140k won't shift out of drive. Reverse works fine, you can manually shift to park reverse or drive, but it will only move forward in third gear(drive). So it is taking off in third gear instead of going through 1st 2nd third and overdrive. I tried to manually shift it to 1st and 2nd with no luck. Transmission shop ran a diagnostic on it and said that the computer is telling the tranny to shift, but it is not taking the command.Any help out there would be great!

I'm having the same problem. I can go from reverse or park straight to first then i can shift it manually up but once in drive it won't shift down or into overdrive. I have 62K on mine. Taking it in next week hopefully under warranty. I will post what the diagnoses is.
