has anyone else dealt with this problem? see details below

Asked by Keeda Jun 15, 2015 at 10:17 AM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My ram 1500 2002 slt with 5.9 motor has an irritating problem. After it has set for awhile, like all night while I'm at work, it starts just fine.  About 2 miles down the road it will start losing power, spit and sputter and you can here it pop, pop, pop.  It never actually stalls the motor out. If I back off the gas and then floor it, it takes right off and seems to clear itself out and runs fine until it sets for several hours again.

Check for partially clogged catalytic converter. Do this test at night when vehicle starts to act up look under vehicle at exhaust system and see if converter starts to turn red. If it does converter getting clogged.
