Oil pressure on 2001 Dodge ram 1500 5.2

My 01 Dodge ram 1500 5.2 has an check gauge
light. One minute the oil pressure is fine the drops
to zero and the light comes on. Then itthe oil
pressure will return to normal and the light goes
off. There is oil In The truck. And it happens
randomly. Has been going on for about a day and a
half now. Any ideas?

It is always nice for peace of mind to have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge to verify the oil pressure. Otherwise try replacing the oil pressure sending unit, they do go bad.

yes..and the plug / wires.. is the oil filter fresh also? if you want to make a mess and find out remove the sending unit put a rag close to it and start the engine for a second..you will soon know if you have pressure or not...better yet just replace the sending unit $15- 20 $
