what are you referring to as 46RH?

Originally named A518, this A727 overdrive tranny was renamed the 46RH and began to be used in 1992 for the series 1500, 2500 and 3500 V8 engines as well as in the Ramcharger SUV 5.2L and 5.9L V8 -- Cut and pasted from http://www.smartpartsauto.com/dodge-ram-transmission.html
Thanks FordNut, A727 is the number that I recalled, These trans don't kook like they are interchangeable, the 95 fits- 93,94,95 and the 97 fits 96,97
So my trans out of a 95 dodge ram will not work in a 97 ram even though they are both 46RH? Even if the tail shafts are swapped out?
That could be so, the auto wrecker program i use shows what years fit what without changing any parts, like shafts and stuff
So how do i know for sure? Because i have a this trans for sale and all lookked the same except the speed sensor on the tail shaft
now you have a speed sensor on the tail stock, that's what would run the speedometer on the truck, the one your trying to change it with where does the speedo get its reading from??That's the answer you need, say if the newer truck might get its reading off the rear dif, then you would be ok, or the older one might have a speedo gear in the tailstock driven by a gear
but having thought more about this, you could remove both tail stocks and if they are the same, I say go with it as long as any and all the electrical connections are the same
I have a 96 trans in a 98 the only thing is cruse dont work. If it bolts up to a ram motor you can run it some 5.9 are external balanced so use the flex plate that the engine came with on both 5.2 and 5.9. As for sensors cruse is the only hangup besides they make affordable shift kits and pressure solenoid and converter lock up switches. Reprogramming shift kits As Well.
