1997 Dodge Ram 1500 will not hold a idle

Question type: General

I got a 1997 ram 1500 5.2 when I go to start it will
fire up but then shut down but if I hold my foot on
the gas with a little pressure it will stay running but
as soon as I let go it will drop the Rpms to 0 and it
will shut off any ideas?

Check and clean your idle air system, The idle air control is on the throttle body, four wire connector. You can see the wire colors in diagram. Also, you may need to clean passages in throttle body.

If the IAC doesn't fix it, then remove n clean or just replace the intake air temp sensor located on the #1 intake runner on the passenger side of the intake kanifold. The celibacy of the Dodge intake due to the leaky intake (oil intrusion caused by a busted gasket) will coat the sensor causing false readings to the ECM...I've found this problem on more than 1 occasion, not to mention, it's an easy fix...and as a wiseman once stated...Dodge engine keeps dying/gggrrrr!!!, carb cleaner at walmart 2 bucks, for everything else there is Visa!
